Antique mattress cover with French ticking c.1870 France 53″ x 77″ French ticking originated as a utilitarian fabric used to cover mattresses, pillows, and daybeds. An extremely durable fabric, it was originally woven to withstand heavy use and  used in upholstery to keep the feather and down from popping out through to the surface. It’s characterized by a heavy weave and straight line pattern.
