Pillow made from a length of Tsutsugaki- dyed cotton depicting young pines and a family crest Late 19th – early 20th century Japan This is a length of over-indigo dyed cotton which made in the tsutsugaki method which is a freehand-drawn resist technique where rice paste is applied directly onto the cloth using a paper cone resembling a pastry bag. It shows young pines and a family crest with the details of the family crest hand-painted.
